What is Typeshala ?

Typeshala (टाइपशाला) is the typing tutor almost every Nepali learned to type on — a small program used in schools and computer institutes across Nepal to practice Nepali and English touch typing. The original software is old Windows-only freeware, so we rebuilt the experience for the modern web: the same Remington keyboard layout, the same lesson-by-lesson progression, no download needed.

Nepali Typeshala is especially useful if you are preparing for the Lok Sewa Aayog (लोक सेवा आयोग) computer skill test, where Nepali typing is tested on the traditional typewriter layout — the same layout taught here.

How to use Nepali Typeshala ?

• Start with Level 1 (आधार पङ्क्ति) — rest your fingers on the home row and type the highlighted key shown on the on-screen keyboard.
• Score 90% accuracy or better to unlock the next level. Your best speed and accuracy for every level are saved in your browser.
• Levels introduce the keyboard row by row — matras (मात्रा), half letters (आधा अक्षर) on the Shift layer, the number row, then real words, sentences and a final speed test.
• Remember the typewriter rules: the ि matra is typed before its consonant, and reph (र्) is typed after the cluster — exactly like a real Nepali typewriter and the Preeti font.

Typeshala, Preeti and Unicode

The Remington layout you practice here is the same one used by the Preeti font — Nepal's most common legacy font for official documents. Once you can type it, you can produce Unicode Nepali too: just type in any editor with Preeti and run the text through our Preeti to Unicode converter. Prefer phonetic typing instead?
